Governor Sir Nicholas Lawes authorized the planting. By the 19th century Jamaica was the leading coffee
producer in the world but slave owning countries like Brazil and Cuba proved tough to beat at the world market. 90%

Jamaican blue mountain coffee beans
The Jamaican blue mountain coffee beans can be classified based on three quality classifications
based on the size of the bean, all sizes of the bean at 96% for sizes from 17/18 down and 2% for visible defects on
the grade 1, 2 and 3. The 4th grade is the pea berry which is a bean with no split and the 5th grade which is
fancily known as Blue mountain Triage is a mix of grade 1, 2, and 3 and with up to 4% defect margin. Under no
circumstance will you find the elephant, black or sour beans allowed. The beans are known for aroma which is
intense, sweet taste and a good feel in the mouth.
The coffee berries are mostly bluish - green and are uniform in size. The peaberry is a

defective bean due to its single fused pea shaped bean instead of being two halves. Despite the odds the pea berry
is the mother of flavors and most drinkers refer to it as the caviar of coffee. It is expensive compared to other
coffee, while in some areas it is discarded as defective
